Mologa
In the late 30s , early 40s, during the construction of the Rybinsk reservoir, an old Russian city Mologa was flooded, along with 700 villages, 140 churches and 3 monasteries, including the famous Afanasian monastery founded in the 14th century.
It was documented that for unknown reasons, 294 residents refused to leave their homes in Mologa and were flooded along with the city.
Very few witnesses are alive until this day, and they remember the evacuation very well, but cannot answer this question.
The film was shot in the Yaroslavl region, in the cities: Rybinsk, Mishkin and Kalyazin. Underwater filming was conducted in the flooded sites of Mologa, on the bottom of the Rybinsk Reservoir.
Also, a unique archive of Rybinsk Museum is used in the film, as well as photographs from private archives of Mologans.
